Field Trip Anyone? (Rare Books at the Philadelphia Library)

Ok, so I've lived in Philly all my life, and never knew that they had stuff like this in the rare book collection at the Philadelphia Free Library. Yah, really. So I wanna go see. Especially the Books of Hours. I'll be going post Pennsic. Anyone interested in coming along? It would have to be during a weekday though, so I'm not sure how well it would work out. They arrange tours at other times, so maybe we could request a weekend/weeknight.

In other news, I think this play is going to kill me. The lack of sleep is not fun. I am, however, losing weight I think, or at least getting a better shape. Not complaining about that.

Tonight: Phillies Fireworks Game. Yipee!

My Crazy Weekend

Crazy in a good way. But still crazy.

Friday I took off from work and slept in.
Then I went to Jomar, and got fabric for a costume for The Music Man and three chemises for Pennsic. Total: $27.
Then I swung over to my parents house and my mom volunteered to help make my Music Man costume.
Then we all went out to see "Public Enemies" starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. Not over dramatized and well done. Yay!

Saturday I again slept in.
Then went to my parent's for the cookout, helped my dad stain my Pennsic chair, and made the skirt for my costume.
Then we partook of inch thick T-bone steaks that they got from a farmer's market in Bristol. Never frozen. Emeril Rub. Yah.
Then hung out with the niece and generally chilled.

Today, got the rest of my costume done and cooked food for the week.

So, I have to go to work tomorrow?

Small Promotion and Other Events

Yay! Due to uncontrollable circumstances, I now have a small speaking part in the Music Man! I'm now Mrs. Squires (I'm married to one of the barber shop quarter) so I have a few lines!

This morning was a little rough. I had too much caffeine yesterday (and add to that the endorphines from biking for 8 miles yesterday) so I was awake and very emotional at four this morning. Blah. So I was crying and worrying all morning.

Then we get to work, and a client of one of our salesmen, not our own really, called and was asking questions that we couldn't know the answer to because our salesman hadn't told us anything. Then he called the salesman and reamed him out. So he called our boss and reamed her out, so she called us and reamed us out. Ugh.

Then some guy on my way home got my number. Don't know why I gave it out. I was feeling really down until the play rehearsal. I'm not interested in random stuff like that. It takes me long enough to get to know just friends. Whatever.

So that was my crazy day. Now for some sleep.

Some more Sweet Sophia

Ok, now I'm getting picture happy, right? At least I put them behind the cut.

See the pics, hello, and Ole! )

The Music Man

I've always wanted to be in a musical. So when they converted a local movie theater into a playhouse, and opened auditions for a community production, I went and tried out.

I got call backs. :0) But I didn't get a speaking part. (Not insanely surprised. I can't act.) But I will be performing as a townsperson in The Music Man. So if anyone gets an inkling to see what passes for community theater in Mayfair, come and check us out. Performances are July 17-19, two at 7:00pm and a Sunday matinee.

The Devon Theater.

Cuties and Sparklies

Yay! More cute niece pictures.

Sophia likes to eat. I think she's approaching a growth spurt. I do know they tend to get really chubby around 4 months, before they start crawling around. So perhaps we're really close to this.

And here you can see her playing with a new stuffed Mr. Froggie. But he's already been replaced by a great doll with a skirt that crinkles when she grabs it. She now likes to grab stuff.

And I'm getting back into wire jewelry. Here are some things I've made recently. The bracelet and earrings for my mom, and a necklace for me.

I only use my cell. Why pay for a home phone when I'm hardly there?

Sophia's New Friend

Sweet Sophia, already growing so fast and only a little over two months old. She pays such good attention to everything. I haven't gotten too many new pictures myself, but as a proud new mamma my sister has been posting to facebook like a fiend. Here are some of the cutest ones. In the second one you get a glimpse of Sophia with her new friend, Mr. Froggy. He's a little rattle with big eyes and a big smile. So when she sees him, she feels he's so happy because he's looking at her. (And really, who wouldn't be looking at this sweetheart?) Anyway, she always smiles or laughs to talks back to the friendly Mr. Froggy.

Eliza Doolittle Day

is tomorrow!

Eliza Doolittle Day
In honor of the heroine of George Bernard Shaw’s play Pygmalion and the My Fair Lady movie, Eliza Doolittle, this day pays tribute to developing mastery over your native language.

So tomorrow I shall strive to speak very good English.

New Arts Stuff in NE Philly

We went to see the Odd Couple this weekend at the newly renovated Devon Theater on Frankford Avenue. It was fabulous! The acting was great, they sold concessions from what used to be the movie's concession stand, and it was a fun (if somewhat senior) crowd. It seems they are working on bringing some culture to the Mayfair neighborhood. For which I am very thankful. Not that I'm against sports, but that seemed to be the main pull in the area. Now we have a playhouse, and an art gallery (Studio at the Devon) and we'll soon have a bookstore/coffee house there as well. (The last bookstore in the area, or in the city that wasn't down town, closed when I was in high school, so I'm sooooo psyched about that.) Anyway, if you're looking for a good play for a bit cheaper than downtown, check this place out.

Substitution

Today's our Mother/Daughter brunch at church. I made something called Frittata. Never made it before. And then in the interest of being healthier I made it from egg whites. A little flour, milk, garlic powder, oregano and parmesan cheese. I hope people like them. They smell good anyway.

Then, because Terminator: Salvation comes out NEXT week instead of this week like we thought, the family is going to see The Odd Couple at the new playhouse in our neighborhood. Hopefully for the matinee.

More crafty things coming soon. I got a new Wire Jewelry book, and I'm ordering the canvas for my tent.

Weekend in Review

I went to see Star Trek. Twice. Once in IMAX with [info]ubiq31  and [info]klynn330 . Also went to the Kite and Key, cause it was owned by Jim Kirk. YES. And then again with my family at a regular theater.

Failed Weekend Attempts )

But there was gardening . . . )

Anyway, this week I'm looking forward to the dance practice party, and finishing up my banner. Hopefully those will go better than my attempts at things this weekend.

Ark Building Anyone?

I like storms. Thunderstorms. Real releasing, torrential, noisy downpours. This insane interminable dripping is driving me insane.

On the other hand this is great movie going weather. So, this week, plans for Star Trek at the IMAX. I am very excited. It looks like an all around good movie. I don't have the ties my dad does to the original series, so I don't feel horribly uncomfortable about this redo. Though watching Sylar play Spock may be creepy.

And I finally remembered what starts next week. Terminator. Now, I've never seen any of the other ones. Though I usually like time loopy movies, I'm not a huge fan of gore. But I'm hearing good things about this one, so I may make an effort to go.

Also, I may actually get my apartment cleaned and get back to some SCA projects this week. I really need to get into Pennsic mode. So I suppose all the drippiness is a blessing in disguise.

Too Late

Why is it I don't hear about the cool things until its too late? Not that I couldn't still make it to some part of this if I really really tried, but well, it would be somewhat difficult.

Bead Fest

But at least I got my post card in the mail about the Crafts in the Barn. That's next week. Me and my mom found it last year and fell in love with the place. They have loverly hand made stuff of all kinds. I think maybe I'll get some sort of jewelry something this time.

Some Possible Coolness

Wow, it's been a while since I've posted. Mostly because lots of mundane (I don't just mean that in the SCA sense) stuff going on. Don't wanna bore the friends.

Dreaming SCA?

Ok, so I've heard of dreaming that you show up for work or school in your underwear. But what's it mean when you get the same feeling in a dream when you show up for an event and you forgot your garb?

I must be undeniably SCAdian now.

What I do All Day at Work

In case anyone was interested. This is something I actually enjoyed making. It's for the Grand Opening of a video game store on Baltimore Pike (where the Borders and Olive Garden are). I thought it came out pretty cool. I'll be there for part of it tomorrow. I'm hoping to win a Wii. :0)

Waiting

My Brother-in-Law got beat up today . . .

It was almost like the beginning of a Law & Order episode. Thankfully, no one was very seriously hurt.

My brother-in-law's sunday school class was having lunch at the church together. He drove one of the guys down to the WaWa to get some cash. The guy apparently got a noticable amount of cash out, and when they stepped out of the WaWa three guys jumped him for the money. They got his wallet, but then by brother-in-law came over to defend him. They started punching him, then ran off.

Thankfully there were tons of witnesses, and lots of police around. They caught the thieves, and rushed my brother-in-law to the hospital. The other guy wasn't hurt so much as scared. Unfortunately, some phone calls got missed or crossed, and some of us had no idea where he was for a while. Including my sister, who had stayed home from church with the week old baby, who then left her with my mom and ran off to see her wounded husband . . .

Whew. Thirteen stitches and a police report later, he finally made it home, and is now relaxing on his couch. I am soooooo thankful no one was hurt very badly. But that was quite a scare.
